The challenge
What had to be true
Clinicians spend a large part of each consultation taking a history the patient could have given beforehand. Patients in Lebanon switch between Arabic and English mid-sentence, so an interviewer had to follow them rather than force a language.
The platform handles protected health information, so it had to be built HIPAA-aligned from the start, and the AI had to support clinical judgment rather than replace it.
The work
What we built
- AI pre-visit interviewerA real-time voice conversation that takes the patient’s history before the visit, in Arabic or English, built on LiveKit and Azure Speech.
- Clinical report pipelineAzure Durable Functions and Azure OpenAI turn the interview into a structured summary, ICD-10 code suggestions and triage for the doctor. Decision support only: critical cases go to a human for review.
- The clinic’s whole journeyFront desk, doctor workspace, telehealth, follow-up with safety review, and payments on one system.
- Multi-tenant by designEach clinic gets its own branded instance, and every query is scoped to the tenant it belongs to.
Security
How the data is protected
- TLS everywhere, with encryption at rest
- Tenant scoping and role-based access on every query
- Versioned patient consent; the interview will not start without it
- Append-only audit log, exportable by administrators
- Managed identity for storage access in production
- No protected health information in logs
HIPAA-aligned, not certified: HIPAA has no certification body, and the safeguards above are the platform’s technical controls.
